Along with naming a Fantasy Football Encyclopedia Rookie of the Year winner for each season starting in 1963, I also wanted to recognize the other outstanding rookies from each individual season. Each All-Rookie Team will have one quarterback, two running backs, three wide receivers and one tight end. Here is the 1965 Fantasy Football Encyclopedia All-Rookie Team.
Quarterback
Joe Namath, New York Jets (168.70 fantasy points)
Namath played in 13 games (started 9 games) and had 2,220 passing yards with 18 passing touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He also had 19 rushing yards.
Running Back
Gale Sayers, Chicago Bears (292.52 fantasy points)
Sayers played in 14 games (started 12 games) and had 867 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns. He also had 29 receptions for 507 receiving yards and 6 receiving touchdowns. Additionally, he had 53 passing yards with 1 passing touchdown and 1 interception along with 1 kick return touchdown and 1 punt return touchdown. Sayers was the 1965 Fantasy Football Encyclopedia Rookie of the Year.
Ken Willard, San Francisco 49ers (187.10 fantasy points)
Willard played in 14 games (started 14 games) and had 778 rushing yards and 5 rushing touchdowns. He also had 32 receptions for 253 receiving yards and 4 receiving touchdowns. Additionally, he had 1 interception.
Wide Receiver
Jack Snow, Los Angeles Rams (111.90 fantasy points)
Snow played 14 games (started 14 games) and had 38 receptions for 559 receiving yards and 3 receiving touchdowns.
Otis Taylor, Kansas City Chiefs (102.30 fantasy points)
Taylor played 14 games (started 4 games) and had 26 receptions for 446 receiving yards and 5 receiving touchdowns. He also had 17 rushing yards.
George Sauer, New York Jets (71.10 fantasy points)
Sauer played 14 games (started 11 games) and had 29 receptions for 301 receiving yards and 2 receiving touchdowns.
Tight End
Jim Whalen, Boston Patriots (60.10 fantasy points)
Whalen played 14 games (started 7 games) and had 22 receptions for 381 receiving yards)
